Changes to Gaming Granting Programs

The Ministry of Housing and Social Development has announced changes to the gaming grants program.

On March 31, the Ministry announced that no funding would be available for "Adult arts, culture and sports groups" for the fiscal year 2010-2011.  The Assembly has been in contact with the Executive Director of Licensing and Grants Division in regards to the Gaming Grants. The Executive Director has stated that "Funding is limited to those programs in which youth (under 18) actively participate".

For more, see this information page.

A press release dated April 1, 2010, announced that in future the Direct Access and Bingo Affiliate programs will be combined into a single program. "The change will ensure all organizations have fair and equitable access to gaming grant funds. In addition, the application process will be simpler and clearer."

The release goes on to state that 3-year committments will be honoured and that "Consolidating the two grant programs will not decrease any organization’s funding that is within the current funding limit of $100,000 per group or $250,000 for groups designated as provincial organizations. Decreased funding may result from an organization applying in a sector that is no longer eligible for funding or submitting an incomplete application."
