Art as Common Language

Thursday, June 21, 2007

Like most of Canada, the Lower Mainland is a cultural mosaic. But how do organizations reach beyond the boundaries of language, class and culture to engage new immigrants in the arts community?

ArtsConnect wanted to find out and with the help of Simon Fraser University's Action Research Exchange (ARX) program and 4th year student Sarah Gallagher, we made some fascinating discoveries. What follows is a brief summation of how we came to instigate this research, Sarah's subsequent findings, and how we've implemented these insights into the work we do.
